An Audi R8 V10 arrived at our Coolum Beach workshop for a major service that required the engine to be removed. This is a significant procedure on the R8 — the 5.2-litre V10 is mounted midship and accessing critical components requires removing the entire powertrain assembly.
Our approach was methodical: document every step, label every connector, and maintain absolute organisation throughout the process. The engine was carefully extracted using specialised lifting equipment, providing full access to the clutch assembly, ancillaries, cooling system, and the rear of the engine bay that’s inaccessible with the engine in situ.
With the engine out, we completed a full logbook service including spark plugs, drive belt, coolant flush, and gearbox oil. The opportunity was also taken to replace the clutch assembly, service the air conditioning system, and address minor oil seepage from the cam covers that would have been prohibitively expensive to fix with the engine in place.
The engine was reinstalled with new hardware throughout, every fastener torqued to spec, and all systems tested before the car was returned to its owner. The R8 left our workshop driving better than it had in years.
